With all our shared history, our foibles, and our strengths…what defines community and makes it work?
com·mu·ni·ty /kəˈmyo͞onədē/ [noun]
“a group of people living together in one place, a feeling of fellowship with others, sharing common attitudes, interest and goals” and at our best…community is a verb.
This is a unique moment of growth in so many communities around the world. Woodstock, with its history in conservationism and its reputation as one of the most beautiful small towns, is an ideal place to forge conversations about creating peaceful communities, innovation in business, farming, technology, and living a more sustainable life.
This is not just a conversation about one community. This is a conversation that is necessary and happening all over the globe. As we emerge from the last few years, what new ideas are shaping our world? How can we change for the better and still honor the past? How do we grow our sense of humanity and humility in trying times? And what new innovations can we celebrate?

We are also thrilled to be producing our TEDXHartlandHill Innovator’s Showcase.
The Innovator’s Showcase is an open market of the "best in community" innovation and some of the new ideas coming from Vermont! This will be an opportunity for local innovators, entrepreneurs, and others to illustrate demonstrate the best in all areas where innovation is thriving in our community from new ideas in business to ecological to technology to sustainable practices.

Why Hartland Hill?
Woodstock is like many communities around the world. We have beauty. We have history. And we have a distinctive feel unique to our esthetic. Hartland Hill represents all of those pieces sewn together giving us our identity.
Hartland Hill is also the physical point that looks over the town.
It’s witnessed our growth over hundreds of years. It’s witnessed the Under Ground Railroad; Washburn’s office, historically referenced as “Pentagon North” in center of town during the Civil War; the clear cutting of Mount Tom and the subsequent birth of Conservationism; the Arts & Crafts and music of the 60’s and 70’s; River Road becoming a river during Hurricane Irene and a community coming together to rebuild; and in recent years, a recalibration coming out of COVID to grow, heal, and bring all that is special about our area forward.
